DMRC cuts Airport Express fare by 40%

To make the Delhi Airport Express Metro line economically viable by increasing its footfalls, Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has decided to reduce passenger fares on the line by up to 40%.

DMRC is making a loss of R4 crore every month on the line. With the cutting of fares, it expects ridership will shoot up by 50%, reducing the loss to R2 crore.

As per the revised fare structure applicable from July 24, the minimum single journey fare on the corridor will be R20 replacing the earlier minimum fare of R30, and the maximum will be R100 against the earlier maximum fare of R180.

The new fares will be beneficial for daily commuters travelling from areas like Dwarka and Dhaula Kuan to New Delhi and vice versa. Airport-bound commuters will be further benefited. However, the rate of existing cards and discount schemes will be discontinued.

Since taking over operations of the Airport Express line on July 1, 2013, DMRC has taken measures to improve ridership.
