If Gucci’s latest initiative is any indication, window dressing, as we know it, is all set to get an overhaul. While it is well-known that luxury brands have patronised the arts and leading artists, the recent collaboration between Gucci’s Creative Director Frida Giannini and renowned Japanese Manga artist, Hirohiko Araki, has taken this association to a new level. Inspired by Giannini’s 2013 “Cruise Collection”, Araki has created an exclusive Manga (Japanese comic strip) story that will grace the windows of Gucci stores world over in January and February. Titled Jolyne, Fly High with Gucci, Araki’s comic strip creation (in the picture) tells the adventure of Jolyne Cujoh, a student who inherits a keepsake from her mother’s Gucci collection. “The characters that Hirohiko has conceived combine energy, sensuality and appeal. They bring my collection to life in a fun and compelling way,” says Giannini. These comic strips will be accompanied by a multimedia campaign, including in-store and viral videos and the publication of the full Manga story in Japan’s Spur magazine and on the luxury brand’s Facebook page.
