According to the latest Hotels.com Hotel Price Index (HPI), Bangkok which ranked number one consecutively for two years for being the most preferred overseas destination by Indian travellers loses out to Dubai in the first six months of 2014. Other South East Asian countries that saw maximum visitors were Singapore, Hong Kong and Pattaya. London (UK), New York (US) continued to retain fourth and fifth spot respectively. Whereas Paris which ranked the 10th position in the H1 2013 has moved upwards to the eighth position, dropping Las Vegas and Kuala Lumpur to the ninth and 10th position respectively.

While Delhi, Mumbai, Goa, Bengaluru, Chennai, Hyderabad and Jaipur continued to reserve the top seven spots, Kolkata which is locally regarded as the intellectual and cultural capital of the nation was the new entrant at eighth spot. Agra which was at ninth position in the first half of 2013 did not make it to the top 10 destinations for travellers from overseas this time.
