Kolkata based Eastern Gases Limited, having marketing arrangements with Indian Oil Petromas, today announced forays into non subsidized domestic LPG and launched it in Punjab, Haryana and Himachal Pradesh markets through Delhi based Worthwhile Foundation.
Anil Choudhary, Director, Eastern Gases Limited and Akshay Jain, Director, Worthwhile Foundation told media persons here today that the product would be available in 12 kg and 17 kg cylinders. The Foundation plans to appoint 1500 dealers in Punjab, Haryana and Himachal Pradesh. They said that India is third largest consumer of domestic LPG after USA and China and about three million LPG cylinders are home delivered every day. Yet there is huge gap between demand and supply and the Eastern Gases Limited and Worthwhile Foundation intend to bridge this gulf.
Choudhary and Jain observed that till now the high subsidies given by the government were acting as an entry barrier for private players, but with the changes in policies regarding the subsidies, the gates have been opened for new players to explore the markets. Over 10 crore households still do not have access to LPG. It is here that Eastern Gases and Worthwhile Foundation would tap this potential.
