The government?s move to import onions for increasing domestic supplies may not be easy given the preference of the Indian consumers. Recently, a chunk of imported onions from China and Egypt found no takers because of their ?poor pungency and taste?. So, the government perhaps needs to first ensure that the onions being imported have the taste and pungency matching that of Indian onions. Or, the country might just have to wait for the next harvest season for prices to fall!
