Rage for roads

Given the sluggishness of the economy, the government is finding it hard to get existing road projects going, let alone push new road projects. This, however, seems to matter little to politicians who have not shied away from demanding roads in their constituencies. The roads ministry is flooded with such applications—the roads demanded total a whopping 55,000 km! This, while the ministry managed to construct about 5,800 km of roads in FY13. So, most of the demands, obviously, will just gather dust.
