Emraan Hashmi starrer ‘Raja Natwarlal’, which opened on an average note, has continued to generate moderate business with box office collections reaching Rs 22.53 crore in five days.
The film’s day-to-day box office collections have been pegged at Rs 6.10 from Friday, Rs 5.15 crore on Saturday, Rs 6.15 crore on Sunday, Rs 2.93 on Monday and Rs 2.2 crore on Tuesday.
The year’s two biggest films – Ajay Devgn-starrer ‘Singham Returns’ and Salman Khan’s ‘Kick’ – had entered the Rs 100 crore club in just five days.
If Raja Natwarlal”s business continues to fall in regular intervals, reaching the Rs 50 crore mark would be difficult, if not mission impossible.
Collection-wise, Emraan Hashmi’s best films so far have been ‘The Dirty Picture’ (2011 – Rs 80 crore), ‘Raaz 3’ (2012 – Rs 70.07 crore), ‘Murder 2’ (2011 – Rs 47.90 crore) and ‘Jannat 2’ (2012 – Rs 42.50). The business of his last film ‘Ghanchakkar’ has been just Rs 34 crore.
Though the advantage of a holiday release is always favourable, the footfalls at theatres have been relatively low due to the Ganesh Chaturthy festivities in the film’s first weekend. This drastic decrease in audience turnout can also be attributed to the fact that ‘Raja Natwarlal’ lacks good and catchy music. Also, the film had a rather low key pre-release promotions.
Besides Emraan Hashmi has been on a slow turn with his last few releases failing to generate the mass hype that usually comes attached with his releases.
However, remembering the fact that Emraan’s star power comes not from the multiplex going audience but from single screens, the film’s collections are expected to take maintain a certain level.
