NYC & Company, New York City?s official marketing, tourism and partnership organisation is promoting, travel throughout the neighborhood of the city?s five boroughs. As part of its ongoing Neighborhood x Neighborhood effort, NYC & Company is spotlighting two of the Bronx?s most vibrant areas?Arthur Avenue and Fordham Road?as the next installments of this borough-wide initiative. The United Kingdom, one of the city?s most intrepid markets, remains the city?s number one source of overseas travellers; last year NYC welcomed 1,033,000 visitors from the UK.

George Fertitta, chief executive officer, NYC & Company said, ?With notable retail shops, authentic Italian dining and some of the city?s most prominent cultural institutions all within walking distance, Arthur Avenue and Fordham Road, in the Bronx, make for a perfect afternoon exploring New York City. We are pleased to be highlighting these Bronx neighborhood in the UK during World Travel Market, one of our most important international trade shows.?

Kate D Levin, cultural affairs commissioner said, ?The Arthur Avenue and Fordham Road area is home to a number of renowned cultural attractions. These include the world-class living collections at the New York Botanical Garden and Bronx Zoo, which provide an extraordinary range of activities in the heart of the Bronx.?

As part of NYC & Company?s mission to maximise travel and tourism opportunities throughout the five boroughs, NYC & Company travelled this week to London with a delegation of 32 NYC businesses to promote travel to New York City while touting Arthur Avenue and Fordham Road in the Bronx as a must-visit destination full of fine dining, exceptional cultural institutions and vibrant retail shops.

The Arthur Avenue Retail Market is home to recently opened shops and third-generation establishments where visitors can find a wide selection of cured meats, cheese, fresh fruits and vegetables, and boutique goods. Customers also have the privilege of viewing the pasta-making process on the machines behind the counter.

Fordham Road is a bustling retail district in the Bronx. With plenty of shops offering local and national brands, Fordham Road is a place to purchase hip sneakers, comics, jeans and more. The neighborhood?s dynamic, urban vibe is unique to New York City, and some of the city?s most popular cultural institutions are just a short walk from the central retail destination.

Visitors looking to experience the Bronx for long can stay at the Opera House Hotel in the South Bronx, which opened in August. The historic Bronx Opera House, a storied entertainment venue dating back to 1913, has been restored to unveil this newly renovated hotel.

Neighborhood x Neighborhood, launched in March 2013, is an initiative designed to increase visitation, support local businesses and encourage exploration in areas outside traditional tourist locations across the five boroughs. Since the programme began, Bushwick, Flatbush and Williamsburg in Brooklyn; the South Bronx; Lower Manhattan; Coney Island, Brooklyn; Corona, Forest Hills and Jackson Heights in Queens; Inwood, Harlem and Washington Heights in Manhattan; Staten Island?s North Shore; and Long Island City, Queens have been highlighted.

New York City is made up of five distinct boroughs: Brooklyn, the Bronx, Manhattan, Queens and

Staten Island. The Neighborhood x Neighborhood initiative intends to spotlight the affordability and accessibility of neighborhoods across the five boroughs with a particular emphasis on areas that have seen new hotel development in recent years.
