Citizens of Andhra Pradesh no longer need to go to eSeva centres or other places to pay their utility services bills. In fact, they can look forward to a knock at their door by authorised attendants from eSeva making bills and collecting bills at their doorsteps.!
In a unique initiative, eSeva APOnline, a joint venture between the government of Andhra Pradesh and Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) for government to citizen (G2C) services, has launched a new initiative on Friday wherein authorised agents or attendants of eSeva APOnline will go to customers house regularly to collect utility services payments.
Equipped with mobile terminals, the attendants go door to door all over the State, accepting bill payments for utility services such as water, electricity, telephone, sewage, and property taxes, in cash or by cheque. The service is being offered in technology collaboration with PCO Net Limited, a Hyderabad-based IT company.
Connected to the departmental servers via wireless Internet technology, eSeva APOnline will offer the service in a safe, secure and extremely convenient way to pay the bills, said Dr J C Mohanty, principal secretary, IT & C department, government of Andhra Pradesh.
"This is an important step in bringing the government closer to consumers. The use of mobile terminal technology will bring more convenience for customers to pay utility bills," Dr Mohanty said. With security built-in through these terminals, customers can safely pay utility bills at their doorsteps, he added.
According to Mr Rajesh Nambiar, regional head of TCS and director of eSeva APOnline, "this unique service will ensure that contemporary technology benefits the common man."
