Lavasa, India's first planned hill city has a high potential to attract both MICE (Meetings Incentives, Conferencing Exhibitions) tourists as well as the leisure segment. With its state-of-the-art infrastructure and international convention facilities, Lavasa has emerged as one of the best destinations to host events. Leisure travellers are attracted by the picturesque setting and the pleasant climate which lasts throughout the year.
Speaking exclusively to Financial Express Online, Scot Wrighton, city manager, Lavasa, said, “We have international standard infrastructure which makes it a perfect destination for MICE tourism. The Lavasa International Convention Centre (LICC) has space to accommodate large number of people. The promenade outside the LICC hosts almost two to three events every month. With the commencement of water sports and the adventure sports, leisure traveller footfall has also increased.”
Recently, the promenade outside LICC showcased a vintage car show which was organised by the Indian Automotive Racing Club (IARC). The event witnessed some timeless classic cars including the Chevrolet Impala (1957), Triumph Herald (1970), Saab 96 (1963) and the historic Volkswagen Tempo (Kubelwagen) which is a 1939 model. The vintage car owners drove these classic beauties from Mumbai and Pune.
Ketan Mehta, director, Indian Automotive Racing Club said, “Lavasa is one of the most beautiful destinations to host an event, the vintage car owners can display their cars on the picturesque Dasve riverfront promenade. We are also planning to make this event an annual show, which can increase tourism to Lavasa.”
There are many plans that can go a long way in increasing visitor arrivals to Lavasa. Coming soon to Lavasa is Space World, a space themed park under the aegis of USSRC. This park would be Asia's first space themed park and would be developed along with the Bollywood-Hollywood theme park in Mugaon, the second town of Lavasa.
