From schoolchildren to celebrities, IT professionals and homemakers, people from all walks of life come together to celebrate the spirit of sharing and caring during Joy of Giving Week (JGW). In its fifth edition this year, JGW is being observed from October 2 to 8. The celebrations in Pune feature a range of interesting events for volunteers to raise funds or collect donation on behalf of various NGOs. A collection drive was organised by Inorbit Mall over the weekend, where volunteers collected old clothes and books from visitors. A wishing tree was also placed in the mall where shoppers could pledge money in favour of various NGOs. Another event, titled “A day in the life of...”, gave students an opportunity to spend a day with a select group of eight professionals, who have made a mark in their respective fields. This included fashion designer Nivedita Saboo, gynaecologist Meeta Nakhare, architect Amla Seth and CEO of Xebec Kiran Bhar. To participate in the event, students were supposed to donate anything between Rs 100 and Rs 500 to charitable organisations such as Navkshitij, Mamta Foundation, Common Aid and Sponsorship Programme, Hope for the Children Foundation, AKS foundation and Nirankar Shikshan Mandal.
JW Marriott Hotel Pune has also been conducting activities to spread the spirit of JGW over the week. For the children of Sprash Balgram orphanage, they have arranged a trip to the zoo, and also donated blankets and bed sheets to Pune Vishyarthi Ashram. The hotel has also put up a wishing tree in the lobby for guests and staff to pledge cash contributions towards Marriott Home, a shelter for leprosy affected children in Chennai.
