Thane, a suburb of Mumbai, is all set to host its first ever art festival called ‘Upvan Art Festival’ in January 2014. The festival is scheduled to commence on January 10, 2014 and continue till January 12, 2014 and would be held around the beautiful Upvan Lake.
Speaking exclusively to Financial Express Online, Sandeep Karnavat, convenor, Upvan Art Festival, ?We are organising this festival to offer all the art lovers a never before opportunity of witnessing spectacular performances by renowned national and international artists. This festival will host international artists from Japan, Germany, USA and other countries. This event is also supported by MTDC, which would help in increasing the tourism to Thane.?
This one of a kind festival is a platform for various international, national as well as local talents. The festival will showcase performing arts including music, dance and theater; visual arts like painting, sculptures and installations. More than 12 celebrity artists are expected to perform in this event, including Ustad Zakir Hussain, Ustad Rashid Khan and Roop Kumar Rathod.
Speaking about the tourism aspect, Suman Vijayakar, secretary, organising committee, said, ?Of course this festival would attract tourism to Thane. It has something for everyone and would surely attract art lovers from across the nation. Also, we will make the necessary arrangements for the safety and security of the tourists.?
A culinary art event would also be organised to tantalise the taste buds of the visitors. Multi-cuisine, experimental cuisine, authentic cuisine, fruit and vegetable art and street food, etc, are some of the highlights.
The festival will also promote the tribal people of Thane district, by hosting a Tribal Carnival event, which would include traditional tribal dance forms and drum circle performances.
