The government on Wednesday told officials and staff of the Income Tax Department that attempting to get postings of their choice using political or other influence shall attract disciplinary action.
The finance ministry admitted in a message to all officials of the department that it has been receiving ?numerous representations? from income tax officials through VIPs and political sources for postings of their choice.
The ministry also urged officials to refrain from this practice.
The message drew the attention of officers to the civil service conduct rules and said, ?No government servant shall bring or attempt to bring any political or other influence to bear upon any superior authority to further his interests in respect of matters pertaining to his service under the government.?
?Any violation thereof will be viewed seriously and be liable to disciplinary actions,? said the message.
