Purchasing mobiles phones seems to be the top priority for online shoppers in Ahmedabad who use Flipkart.com the most, which is an e-commerce platform that first began by selling books in 2007.
"The top products among online shoppers, using their smartphones, is to purchase mobile phones. However, we cannot divulge the exact figures," said Mausam Bhatt, director mobile marketing of Flipkart India Pvt Ltd on Tuesday.
Apart from mobiles, footwear, tablets and tablet accessories top the list of merchandise bought by online shoppers who use mobiles to make a purchase on the portal. "Today we still lead the Rs 700 crore organised book market in India," said the Flipkart official.
Talking about the rising trend of shoppers using their smartphones to make an online purchase Bhatt said, "Due to the rising penetration of smartphones, we are seeing a huge jump in customers making a purchase using their mobile phones. Over 25 percent of sales clocked by Flipkart.com, in Ahmedabad comes from online shoppers using mobiles and smartphones."
Though Gujarat stands, eighth among states where shoppers use this online portal to shop, the category of those using mobiles is rising rapidly, says Flipkart official. Increasing smartphone penetration and lower costs of devices has further contributed to this trend.
Flipkart is currently seeing 20 percent of their orders coming from mobiles. This mobile traffic for the portal is growing at two times the rate of desktops.
