From Pakistan to China, world says hello to Narendra Modi

Hours after Narendra Modi landslide win, PMs of Pakistan, Bangladesh, UK, Australia and President of Sri Lanka congratulated him and invited him to visit their country.

Hours after BJP’s PM candidate Narendra Modi landslide win, Prime Ministers of Pakistan, Bangladesh, UK, Australia and President of Sri Lanka congratulated him and invited him to visit their country. China’s foreign ministry and Canada’s envoy also expressed willingness to work together.

Pakistan PM Nawaz Sharif spoke to Modi on Friday afternoon and offered his congratulations and good wishes on the BJP?s ?impressive victory?, a Pakistan High Commission spokesperson said on Friday.

This is quite significant since Pakistan will be one of his foreign policy priority areas, as Modi has indicated that he is willing to work with Pakistan by picking up from where Atal Behari Vajpayee left.China also said that it is willing to work with the new Indian government to take their bilateral strategic partnership to a new height. ?China is willing to make joint efforts with new the Indian government, maintain high-level exchanges, deepen cooperation in all areas and bring China, India strategic partnership to new height,” Chinese foreign ministry spokesperson Hua Chunying told reporters in Beijing.

Noting that counting is still going on and official results are not out yet, Hua said China valued its ties with India as it is Beijing’s close neighbour and relationship in recent years have witnessed steady momentum.

Bangladesh PM Sheikh Hasina was the first to send a congratulatory letter to Modi, calling him a ?great friend of Bangladesh? and said that the verdict was a testimony to his ?visionary leadership?.

British PM David Cameron also called up and congratulated him on the ?election success? and said he is keen to work together. UK foreign secretary William Hague said, ?I congratulate Narendra Modi and look forward to forging an even closer partnership with India in the months ahead.”

Sri Lankan President Mahinda Rajapaksa also called him up and invited him for a ?state visit?. ?Called @narendramodi a short while ago; Congratulated on BJP victory & invited for a state visit to #SriLanka,? he tweeted. Australian PM Tony Abbott, who also spoke to Modi on the phone, tweeted, ?I look forward to strengthening ties between India and Australia.?

Canada’s High Commissioner Stewart Beck congratulated Modi for ?winning a clear majority? in India?s general elections.
