'Fugly', a Grazing Goat Pictures venture, has managed to make Rs 9.34 crore nett as per trade analysts' data, after making only Rs 7.35 crore in box office collections in the opening weekend.
'Fugly' is now facing the audience test and the response has been divided for the film, with its business witnessing an upward trend in some circuits (North India in particular), but the tide remaining low in certain sectors.
Manoj Desai of G7 jokingly remarked that the storylines of the films (released last week), including 'Fugly' were so unimpressive that the audience shunned them. “The older audience is not able to decipher the title 'Fugly' and thus, are not interested in the film,” he said.
Desai, who was disappointed with the way 'Fugly' has performed, said: “I thought it would go the 'Fukrey' way, but it hasn’t managed that, and the occupancy wasn’t great on Friday and Saturday. On Sunday, the film however, managed a full house.”
However, the director, Kabir Sadanand was quite happy with the business the film has done. He said, “For a new comer film it’s fab. In the opening weekend, the film has collected Rs 9.54 crore (gross).”
According to Taran Adarsh, 'Fugly' is now facing the audience test. “The response has been divided for Fugly with its business witnessing an upward trend in some circuits, particularly North India, but the tide has remained low in certain sectors,” said Adarsh.
The occupancy, however, showed that Fugly wasn’t up to the mark. “The film has just 20-25 per cent occupancy. Even other releases of the week are poor with almost no good shows,” said film proprietor Rajesh Thadani, adding that the past release, 'Holiday' was much better with around 80 per cent occupancy across theatres.
Fugly is a fast paced masala, thriller set in the lanes of Delhi. A story of 4 friends: Dev, Devi, Gaurav & Aditya who are just out of college & at the cusp of their lives... their dreams and expectations come to a crashing halt when one night they are faced with evil incarnate SHO Chautala aka Jimmy Sheirgill, a fearless police officer. The film also stars Jimmy Sheirgill, Mohit Marwah, boxer Vijender Singh, Arfi Lamba, Kiara Advani and Anshuman Jha.
