The showers on Saturday helped city residents enjoy a pleasant weekend with mercury remaining below normal levels on Sunday. The maximum temperature stood at 37.6 degrees Celsius, two degrees below normal and down from 40.3 degrees Celsius recorded on Saturday.
The minimum temperature was 22 degrees Celsius, three degrees below normal and down from 25.2 degrees Celsius of the previous day.
Weatherman has predicted a few more rainy evenings this week. According to the Met department, sky will be partly cloudy with a possibility of thundershowers.
The city experienced its first summer shower with wind speeds reaching 95-100 km/hour on Saturday evening. DLF chairman K P Singh’s chopper had to make an emergency landing at Dhaulana town due to the rain. Singh reached Delhi by road as the chopper could not take off in the rough weather.
Officials said the downpour was caused by western disturbances over Jammu and Kashmir and Himachal Pradesh. There was an upper air cyclonic circulation over Punjab and eastern UP as well. “These factors could contribute to more duststorms or rain in the evening or at night in the next few days,” a Met department official said. The humidity went up from 48 per cent on Friday to 72 per cent on Saturday due to rain.
