General Motors (GM) India is gearing up for the launch of its Chevrolet Sail sedan on February 1. This will be followed by the launch of the multipurpose vehicle, Enjoy, in the next couple of months, P Balendran, vice-president, corporate affairs, General Motors India, told FE.
The Chevrolet Sail will be simultaneously launched in Delhi, Mumbai and Bangalore, he said. The Sail sedan will be GM India?s first launch in 2013. The US carmaker is pinning its hopes on the Sail family of cars ? Sail U-Va hatch, which was launched late in 2012 and the soon-to-be launched Sail sedan and MPV Enjoy ? to provide volumes.
Balendran said Sail would be manufactured out of the company?s Talegaon plant in Pune. The company will be pitching Sail sedan against other segment contenders, including the likes of Maruti Suzuki Swift DZire, Tata Manza Club Class and Nissan Sunny.
The upcoming model is an extended sedan version of the recently launched Sail U-VA premium hatch, which was launched late last year. Chevrolet Sail sedan will come in both petrol and diesel models, he said. For the Sail sedan, the engines are shared with the hatchback and are sourced from the Talegaon plant.
