GoAir hopes to get foreign flight rights this fiscal

Budget carrier GoAir on Tuesday said it was optimistic of getting a waiver from the civil aviation ministry to allow it to start international flights in the current fiscal. The airline, controlled by the Wadia Group, had sought an exemption from a rule that stipulates minimum 20 aircraft to start overseas operations.

?I am confident, but of course it depends on the ministry. I do hope it will happen this year,? Giorgio De Roni, CEO of Go Airlines told a media conference here on Tuesday. The carrier is eyeing destinations such as the Gulf countries, Southeast Asia, Sri Lanka and Nepal, he said.

Without a waiver, the airline would be able to start international flights only after July 2014 when its fleet will expand. The carrier is on track to add three aircraft this fiscal having received two new planes since April and delivery of a third expected in January. GoAir on Tuesday announced new flight connecting Bangalore and Goa as part of its push into South India.
