Govt withdraws Bill to amend Sebi Act

The government today withdrew a Bill to amend the Securities and Exchange Board of India Act.

The government on Thursday today withdrew a Bill to amend the Securities and Exchange Board of India Act ahead of introduction of a new Bill that would give more powers to capital market regulator Sebi. Finance minister P Chidambaram proposed in the Lok Sabha to withdraw the Bill, which was introduced in March this year.

Permissions of 71 channels cancelled

The permissions of 71 TV channels have been cancelled by the I&B ministry for various reasons after a comprehensive review of the companies operating them, the Lok Sabha was informed Thursday. ?Permissions of 71 channels have been cancelled till date due to reasons of non-operationalisation, non-submission of Performance bank guarantee or surrender of permission,? I&B minister Manish Tewari said in a written reply.

SFIO probing 63 chit fund cos

The Serious Frauds Investigation Office is investigating 63 chit fund companies for alleged violations of the Companies Act. The corporate affairs ministry, under which SFIO functions, looks into violations of Companies Act by firms.

87 in ?vanishing companies? list

The government has found 87 companies that vanished after raising funds and a majority of these were registered in the state of Gujarat. In a written reply to the Lok Sabha, corporate affairs minister Sachin Pilot said that FIRs have been lodged with police against all 87 companies and their directors to trace their whereabouts and to take action against these firms.

Aadhaar not must for availing services

The Aadhaar card is not a must for availing services like opening bank accounts, admissions to school and obtaining passport, Parliament was informed Thursday. “The Aadhaar card is not mandatory to avail government services like opening basic (bank) accounts, admissions to schools, obtaining passport, etc, by any individual,” planning minister Rajeev Shukla said in written reply to Rajya Sabha.
