Hero MotoCorp, Bajaj Auto, Honda bike dealers see more enquiries for entry, executive level bikes

Bikemakers Hero MotoCorp, Bajaj Auto, Honda are benefitting from surprise axing of excise duty.

Following the surprise reduction in excise duty and the subsequent lowering of prices, Hero MotoCorp, Bajaj Auto, Honda Motorcycle bike dealers are seeing more enquiries and some say there has been a spurt in sales over the weekend, especially for bikes in the entry and the executive level segments.

A Hero MotoCorp dealer in Mumbai claims the enquiries have gone up significantly over the last one week, mostly from prospective buyers looking at deals in the entry and the executive level segment.

?Most buyers have called in asking for the revised prices for Splendor and the Super Splendor range, where the discount is Rs 1,500-2,000,? said the dealership manager. The waiting period for bikes at Hero dealerships is 8-10 days.

The overall prices reduction of Hero two wheelers ranges from 2-5% with the maximum cut being Rs 4,500. According to the revised list, Hero’s base model for Splendor Plus, an entry level 100 cc bike, has seen an excise cut of Rs 2,000, bringing the bike’s on-road price in Mumbai to Rs58,986. The Super Splendor, a 125-cc executive level bike, has seen an excise reduction of Rs 2,500, bringing the bike’s on-road price in Mumbai to Rs 62,330.

Bajaj Auto too has passed on the full benefit of the excise cut to its customers—the price reduction ranges between Rs 2100- Rs 4400— and enquiries are mainly for the Discover range, especially the recently launched 100 M. Bajaj’s Discover 100 M, launched in October 2013, is available for Rs 55,990 on-road in Mumbai, after an excise cut of Rs 2,510. Similarly, its Discover 125T is now cheaper by Rs 3,490 to Rs 63,500 on road price in Mumbai now. The waiting period for the bikes is 5-10 days depending on the model.

Honda Motorcycle & Scooter India dealers claim they have seen a spike in sales for Dream Neo, the least expensive model, which has seen a price cut of Rs 1600. The Dream Neo is priced between Rs 43,150 & Rs 47,289.
