An inter-ministerial group (IMG) on Wednesday reviewed the development status of of 17 new coal blocks allocated to various companies, including the state-owned NTPC and Damodar Valley Corporation.
Sources said the IMG may issue show-cause notices to some of these captive coal block holders and seek explanation from others for missing the key milestones set for the development of allocated mines.
The inter-ministerial group will again convene on Thursday and Friday to decide the fate of 30 coal blocks to whom show-cause notices were issued by the panel earlier.
The government had formed the IMG last year to review the progress of coal blocks allocated to firms for captive use and recommend action, including cancellation of allocation.
The panel is headed by additional secretary in the coal ministry and has members from other ministries, including steel and power.
