iGate, the US-headquartered IT services company, has filed a counter-suit seeking compensation from its former chief executive officer, Phaneesh Murthy, for not disclosing adequately his relationship with an employee of the company.

This move follows the suit filed by Murthy against iGate in December last year for wrongful termination. iGate sacked Murthy in May, 2013 for his failure to report the alleged relationship with a subordinate employee, which was termed as a violation of the company's policy.

When contacted regarding this development, an iGate spokesperson said, “Beyond the cross-complaint itself, we are not commenting on this ongoing

situation.”

The case has been filed at the Alameda County Superior Court of California, where Murthy has filed a suit against iGate claiming benefits as a former employee.

The suit stated that, “Rather than accept responsibility for his own behavior which resulted in Murthy being accused of sexual harassment of a workplace subordinate for the fourth time, Murthy, iGate’s former president and chief executive

officer has the gall to sue iGate and claim that iGate still owes him millions of dollars and has damaged his

reputation.”

The suit also alleges that Murthy had tried to conceal his affair from the Board and “even extended his participation in a secret mediation of the employee's claims for sexual harassment against iGate and himself, without iGate’s knowledge.”

iGate has sought compensation from Murthy for reasonable attorney fees and costs involved in the entire case.
