BJP?s PM candidate Narendra Modi will campaign for senior leader Murli Manohar Joshi in Kanpur on April 18, according to party leaders.
This came days after Joshi triggered a controversy by saying that there is no Modi wave in the country and that the wave is only of BJP. He had also suggested that the Gujarat model of development, touted by Modi, cannot be made applicable to all states, saying that he did not favour a ?straitjacket model? of one particular state.
Modi will be the first from the party?s star campaigners who is going to campaign for Joshi in Kanpur, which goes to polls on April 30.
According to party leaders, senior police officers of Gujarat government led by DIG Rajendra on Tuesday inspected a ground in Hanspuram area of Kanpur where Modi?s public meeting is scheduled on April 18. These police officers, they said, gave approval for the venue as well as the site of helipad. But permission from the district administration is still awaited.
Kanpur region president Balchandra Mishra said around 1.5 lakh people were expected to attend the rally. To accommodate the rally, the party has postponed two public meetings of senior party leader Shatrughan Sinha which were scheduled on April 18 in Kanpur.
