In Parliament: Bill tabled to regulate real estate

Bill tabled to regulate real estate

A bill seeking to protect home buyers from unscrupulous developers and builders and having

provisions like jail term of up to three years for offences

like putting up misleading advertisements about projects repeatedly, was introduced in Rajya Sabha on Wednesday. The bill

also intends to make it mandatory for developers

to launch projects only after acquiring all statutory

clearances. It makes it mandatory for builders to clarify the carpet area of the flats as well.

Govt puts on hold market access policy

The Centre has put on hold the implementation of preferential market access policy that provided for sourcing of security sensitive electronic equipment from domestic manufacturers. MoS for commerce and industry E M Sudarsana Natchiappan in a reply to the Rajya Sabha said concerns have been raised in many quarters on different aspects of the policy.

?Food security coverage not limited to poor?

The food security plan is not restricted to the poor alone as it will cover 67% of the population, planning minister Rajeev Shukla said on Wednesday. Explaining the coverage, Shukla said: “As per Planning Commission estimates, 21.9% of the people live below the poverty line in 2011-12. Therefore, the population covered is approximately three times of the number of poor.?

Panel formed for spectrum allocation

The Centre has formed a committee to examine conditions for allotment of some of the spectrum through allotment route, MoS for communications and IT Milind Deora said on Wednesday. “The committee will examine issues related to allotment and pricing of spectrum, including conditions which need to be satisfied in order to adopt auction as the preferred/sole mode of allotment and types of spectrum,” Deora said.

82 GoMs and EGoMs in UPA-II term

Finance minister P Chidambaram is a member of all EGoMs while Planning Commission deputy chairman Montek Singh

National Waterway push for Assam river

The Rajya Sabha passed a bill to declare the 121-km stretch of Barak river in Assam as National Waterway, a move aimed at unified development of waterways for shipping, navigation and transportation of cargo to the north-eastern region. The waterway would particularly benefit Assam, Nagaland, Mizoram, Manipur and Tripura.
