Campaigning for the first time in Telangana, PM Manmohan Singh Saturday accused the BJP of playing divisive politics.
At a public meeting in Bhongir, Nalgonda district, Singh said, “BJP’s leaders make such provocative statements and later try to distance themselves from them. I believe it is an attempt to divide society. The statements come at a time when other states are voting and BJP feels divisive politics will benefit them.”
“The BJP’s campaign is centred around just one person who is making false claims and baseless promises which cannot be fulfilled,” he said. “You have to decide whether you want a deeply divided society or an inclusive society. Do you want to vote for a party that instigates people to fight against each other?” he added.
Taking credit for the creation of Telangana, Singh said, “Everyone knows who is responsible for the creation of your Telangana state. It is the Congress and Congress only which made it happen. Sonia Gandhi promised you and has delivered Telangana state. Some parties are shamelessly trying to claim credit.”
