PadMan cycle to be auctioned! Akshay Kumar, Twinkle Khanna to raise funds for menstrual hygiene

Team PadMan has now adopted this novel strategy of promoting the film to reach out to as many people before the R Balki film hits the screens on February 9.
Akshay Kumar, apart from promoting his upcoming film PadMan, is making an effort to contribute towards women’s menstrual hygiene in other ways too. Kumar, along with his wife Twinkle Khanna, is planning to hold an auction and raise funds for an NGO working for menstrual hygiene. The couple has decided to auction a bicycle used in the film to raise funds. Twinkle Khanna and Akshay Kumar in a joint venture decided to raise funds by auctioning the bicycle and the funds will be transferred to an NGO called Population First. The reason why Akshay and Twinkle chose this NGO was that not only do they work for women’s rights but they also campaign for health and sanitation facilities for females across India.
Khiladi Kumar took to Twitter sharing the details of the auction, he tweeted captioning, “Bid for this #Padman cycle featured in my movie on http://www.bidkartz.com and the proceedings go for supporting women empowerment to “Laadli – a girl child campaign by Population First.”
The film which is going hit the silver screen on February 9, features Akshay Kumar roaming around the streets of his hometown on a bicycle. The same bike will be auctioned.
This effort by the superstar to go beyond the film world and contribute towards development and women’s welfare is commendable. As per the report, Akshay has even started his own self-defence institutes for women in the country. Besides, instead of using the auction as a promotional activity for their film, the superstar and his producer-wife Twinkle Khanna want to focus on giving attention to Population First’s noble initiative. The NGO works towards spreading awareness about the taboo topic of menstrual hygiene. Their campaign has spread across 101 villages in rural India. One of their initiatives that work in that direction is the Laadli initiative which will be the prime focus for the bicycle auction fundraiser.
The film which also stars Radhika Apte and Sonam Kapoor in prominent roles is directed by R. Balki and marks the foray of Twinkle Khanna as a producer. PadMan is slated to release on February 9.
