Indo-Myanmar border trade at Moreh in Manipur's Chandel district has come to halt in the wake of a strike by a tribal organisation.
The border town-based Hill Tribal Council (HTC) blocked the border indefinitely from 6 PM yesterday affecting connectivity and trade between two countries.
The action followed a bid on life of HTC 'Chairman' Jangmang Haokip by exploding a powerful grenade at his residence at Moreh yesterday, official reports said adding
that no one was injured in the attack by suspected militants.
Official sources said police and Assam Rifles personnel visited Haokip's residence immediately after reports came.
They said police would find out whether it was connected with monetary demand from the HTC chairman.
Sources said trade between the two countries involved crores of rupees daily and any disruption would pinch various people doing business there besides the state government which also earned revenue from the international trade.
