Infosys, India’s second-largest IT services firm, is coupling its expansion in its largest market, the US, with a headcount ramp-up in other key geographies, some of which have struck a protectionist stance in recent times. In its latest move, Infosys has opened a new centre in Sydney with a capacity of 140 seats.
The IT major on Monday said that it expects to hire 85 new employees in New South Wales (NSW) alone, a state in the east of Australia, to keep up with client demand in the coming financial year. The IT major currently employs about 2,600 people based across Australia and New Zealand.
The new office in NSW will accommodate both new local staff to be hired and specialists visiting Australia for short-term projects throughout the year while the majority of employees in the region will continue to work on client sites across the greater Sydney area.
The Bangalore-based IT-services exporter pointed out that to keep pace with business growth of more than 500% in the NSW region for over the past five years, the company decided to open a new branch office in Sydney.
?Australia is the third-largest market for Infosys globally and one of our fastest-growing markets. We are seeing healthy growth across the region. The New South Wales financial services and communications work in particular is driving a lot of our hiring,? said Jackie Korhonen, senior vice-president and country head, Australia and New Zealand, Infosys.
