ING Vysya app takes a new look at mobile banking

Wouldn?t banks just love all of us to use mobile banking instead of queuing up in front of their tellers?

Wouldn?t banks just love all of us to use mobile banking instead of queuing up in front of their tellers? Well, at least some them seem to be convinced that they need to get more customers to line up to download their apps and than for FD requests.

While all Indian banks now have decent mobile apps, ING Vysya is literally taking a completely different look at banking apps with its latest version. I say a completely different look, because the app tells you your balance without even the need for logging in every time. I am not convinced that a speedometer is the best visualisation to show who much money you have in the bank, it is definitely a different approach to mobile banking. With this new feature the bank has discovered that customers check the balance much more than before.

The offbeat thinking with the app is visible from the moment you log in. Actually, the app lets you register for mobile banking on the phone itself. And in case you forget the password, a new one can be generated from the app itself. That is the kind of thinking that can drive more people to use mobile banking.

The features are all what you would find in other banking apps, though they seem to be easier to navigate. Instead of a service menu, services and requests have been added contextually in the relevant sections. For instance, start an FD is where you would see your balance.

One really unique feature is that the app lets you scan a cheque and store the image for future reference. This is a clear indication that Indian banking is winding up for paperless transactions in the near future.

The app also give you some shopping offers and deals as well as access to your investments and demat accounts. It is also good that there is a history section under almost all tabs to let you see past transactions in the section.

It seems mobile banking is finally here.
