The IPL governing council rejected RCB owner Vijay Mallya’s complaint that the auctioneer had erred in prolonging the auction after the hammer had come down during Yuvraj Singh's sale. “We had a governing council meet. We came to the conclusion that the auctioneer is the final authority to take a call and make a decision. So, we will go by the auctioneer’s decision," said IPL chairman Ranjib Biswal.
Mallya had filed a protest over the auction of Yuvraj Singh on Wednesday. However, KKR officials said they had their paddle up and the auctioneer did not notice it. Auctioneer Richard Madley said his view was blocked by other officials and the auction was re-started. As a result, the bid which was originally closed in favour of RCB for a sum of R10 crore had to be re-opened and was later settled at Rs 14 crore.
