The Information Technology (IT) Park Association of Rushikonda on the city outskirts has urged the Andhra Pradesh government to look into various problems faced by industry including power shortage and lack of infrastructure facilities.

President of the Association P Vishnu Kumar Raju and Vice-President O. Naresh Kumar told pressmen here at the IT park last night that though the association approached the state Government and submitted representations, there was no action so far.

Raju said the IT industry in Visakhapatnam was facing serious problem due to severe power cuts during peak hours from 1800-2200 hours though the government had agreed to supply uninterrupted power to them.

He urged the State Government to appoint a committee to look into the problems of the IT industry and announce a special package for it as the industry was main source for creating employment and foreign exchange in the country.

Raju alleged that there was no proper road and street light facilities at Rushikonda IT park.

He said the IT units facing power cuts of 90 percent during evneing and 40 percent during day time and was imposed with six times penalty for using connected load.

Vice-President of the Association and CEO of Symbiosis Technologies O Naresh Kumar said the IT companies in the city have to close down their units if the government failed to keep its promise of providing uninterrupted power supply. He said AP Eastern Power Distribution Company Limited had the lowest T and D losses among the all the four distribution companies in the state but power allocation was less to the APEPDCL than other distribution companies.

He said there was no reason why APEPDCL consumers should pay for the losses and thefts in the other three Discoms.

Kumar said the APEPDCL was issuing notices to the IT units not to use power for more than 60 percent during day time and not more than 10 percent during nights.

He said out of 25 IT units in the park only ten are working and remaining units facing problems due to severe power shortage.
