Gujarat CM and BJP’s PM candidate Narendra Modi believes the Indian IT industry can promote digital inclusion by strengthening cyber security and empowering the youth.
?India’s talent plus information technology is equal to India’s tomorrow. IT sector can be the shining light of Brand India,? Modi said on Friday addressing IT honchos at the 22nd Nasscom India Leadership Forum 2014 in Mumbai through a video link. In Modi?s view, information technology can be an effective medium to connect the hinterland with the cities. ?Just like the British built bridges and rail lines, information highway network can play a very big role in transforming the nation today,? he said, adding that it’s his dream to see a transformed India by 2022, when the country observes 75 years of independence.
?We can’t have two Indias, one racing ahead and another moving on a reverse gear. This will add to our problems,? Modi said. ?There is also need to focus on promoting software as much as hardware to ensure inclusive growth,? he said, urging IT firms to ensure CSR activities revolve around solving India?s problems and making day-to-day life easier. The CM said good governance, coupled with the use of social media, is needed. “E-governance can bring minimum government and maximum governance,” he said.
?Through the use of social media, we must ensure people are involved in governance. E-governance is easy, effective and economic,” he added. Modi ended his speech with a cautionary note.
?We are living in a time where wars will be fought in the cyber space,? he said. ?Like we have soldiers fighting on the border, IT professionals can save us against the cyber war.?
