The much-hyped Salman Khan-starrer, Jai Ho, that released just before the Republic Day, fell short of expectations when it comes to box office collections. Made on an approximate budget of Rs 75 crore, Jai Ho did not fare well at the box office.
With other new films not doing well, Jai Ho, however, managed to make some money. Abhay Deol-Preeti Desai-starrer One By Two - made on a budget of approximately Rs 15 crore - was a total failure.
According to distributor Sunny Khanna, “Jai Ho stood to gain because no new releases clicked at the box office. Besides, because of the tax exemptions in some states, the Jai Ho managed box office collections of Rs 13.80 crore in its second weekend.”
“The overall domestic collection for 10 days was Rs 102.58 crore (Rs 88.78 crore in the first week) Eros International, the distributors of Jai Ho, confirmed the figures. One By Two, however, was a disaster at the box office, collecting close to Rs 2 crore over the weekend. The film will struggle to reach Rs 5 crore nett lifetime,” said Khanna.
Trade analyst Atul Mohan said, “This weekend, as expected, wasn’t great. Jai Ho has been a disappointment and distributors have lost big money on this. They are hoping Salman shall become the good Samaritan and bail distributors and exhibitors out, as in the past they have not only made money on his films, but have also shared the profit with the makers.”
