Opposing the proposed increase in examination fee for students of the Panjab University, Satya Pal Jain, former Member of Parliament and National Chairman of BJP’s Committee on Legal Affairs and Election Commission Issues, said he and his party opposed any such rise in fees.
Assuring students that he would take up the issue in the coming PU Syndicate and Senate meetings, Jain said he would also raise issues like proper placements of students, representation of students in the PU Senate and other bodies, besides the issue of timely release of fellowships to the research scholars.
Speaking at a function organised by a group of PU students under the banner of ‘NaMo’ to thank him for successfully stalling the 10 per cent increase in the examination fees in the last PU Syndicate meeting, Jain alleged the Congress government was making higher education a prerogative of the rich. He said Congress was making it practically impossible for a common student to go for higher education due to the increase in exam fee.
“BJP is of the firm opinion that it will ensure fee structure in schools, colleges and universities is such that even a student of a poor family can afford it,” he added.
