Ever since the Delhi Assembly election was announced, student leaders from across the capital have started lobbying for tickets.
At least two former student leaders of the Congress-backed NSUI and three leaders of the BJP’s youth wing ABVP have applied to their party leadership for tickets.
These hopefuls have one thing in common — they are all former office bearers of the Delhi University Students’ Union.
The NSUI’s former DUSU president Amrita Dha-wan (2006) has applied to the PCC for a ticket from Tilak Nagar. Another former DUSU president, Ajay Chikara (2011), also of the NSUI, is seeking a ticket from Mundka. Nakul Bharadwaj of the ABVP had fought municipal elections last year from Patparganj on a BJP ticket.
