A total of 16 teams will be taking part in the upcoming 20th Edition of All India J.P. Atray Memorial Cricket Tournament to be held from September 26 to October 6 at different venues. The venues include: PCA Stadium Mohali, Sector 16 Cricket Stadium, Chandigarh; LIC Cricket Academy GMHS Sector 26, Chandigarh; St John's School, Sector 26, Chandigarh; Barwala and Govt. College Ground in Ropar and Tau Devi Lal Stadium, Sector 3, Panchkula. The final will be played at Sector 16 Stadium Chandigarh on October 6 under the floodlights. According to Vivek Atray, convener of the tournament, special award for the most technically sound young batsman will be named as D.P. Azad Award to perpetuate the memory of legendary coach who had long association with the tournament. Baroda Cricket Association, Madhya Pradesh Cricket Association, DDCA President’s XI, Air India Delhi, Reliance Industries Mumbai, All India FCI Delhi, MRF Chennai, PCC, PCA Colts, State Bank of Mysore, CAG Delhi, ONGC Delhi, DASCB, Canara Bank Bangalore, BSNL Delhi, Players ITC and Income Tax-XI are the teams participating in the tournament. Known players like Praveen Kumar, Rahul Sharma, Ajayankya Rahane, Cheteshwar Pujara, Siddharth Kaul and Jeevanjot Singh will take part in the tournament.
GGD SD College men bag boxing title
GGD SD College, Sector 32, pocketed 27 points to emerge overall champions in the senior men’s section of the 37th UT state boxing meet in Chandigarh on Sunday. The second place was won by Sri Guru Gobind Singh College (SGGS), Sector 26. In individual weight categories, Rajbir of SD College got the better of Manjot of the same college in the +91kg final. In 91kg, Kanwarpreet of SGGS-26 beat Manish of Gyandeep School-20 to bag the top honour. In 81kg final, Rakesh of SD College beat Saajan of Sector-42 Coaching Centre (CC-42), while Kailash Gill, also from SD College, prevailed over Jaspreet (CC-42) in the 75kg final. In 69kg, Neeraj (CC-42) beat Deepak Sura (B Club) to win the top place, while Sagar of DAV-10 lost to Varinder Rana (SGGS-26) in the 64kg final. In the 60kg final, Shubham Gulati of SGGS-26 beat Durgesh (CC-42). Lakshay of SGGS-26 beat Navin of SD College to bag the top honour in the 56kg section. In the 52kg final, Ajay of DAV College-10 beat Brijesh (CC-42), while Vijay beat Sanam Maikat in the title clash of the 49kg event. Moreover, Kanwarpreet of SGGS-26 and
