JSW Steel has proposed to set up a steel plant in Orissas Kendrapara district for an investment of R15,000 crore.
Managing director Sajjan Jindal, accompanied by Kendrapara Lok Sabha MP Baijyanta Panda, on Monday made an aerial survey of the possible sites before meeting chief minister Naveen Patnaik and discussing the project.
We have seen two-three sites in the state and we think Kendrapara will be suitable for our project, Jindal
We are proposing to set up a port-based plant, and Kendraparas proximity to Paradip and Dhamra makes it suitable for us, he added.
While Jindal said the investment would be to the tune of R15,000 crore, he didnt disclose details related to the plants capacity, saying it is now at the exploratory stage. The size may be 3 million tonne or 10 million tonne, depending on the location and other infrastructure advantages, he said.
Baijayanta Panda said the district now has the required infrastructure for the project. We have two ports and a express highway in the district, he said, adding, The Haridaspur-Paradip railway line is progressing very fast and is expected to be completed very soon.
Meanwhile, the state-level single window (SLSW), headed by chief secretary JK Mohapatra, on Monday cleared nine projects in steel, ferro alloys and the logistics sector. The projects will entail a total investment of R1,920 crore and would generate employment for 1,687 people.
Industrial Promotion And Investment Corporation Of Odisha (IPICOL) chairman-and-managing director, G Mathevathan, said seven companies, including Essel Mining & Industries, have proposed to set up iron beneficiation and pellet plants while TS Alloys has proposed to set up a ferro-alloy project in Anatpur in Cuttack district. The Container Corporation of India (Concor) has proposed to set up a multi-modal logistics park in the Jajpur district, near the Kalinganagar industrial area.
