He has been a part of comedy films like Peepli [Live], Great Indian Circus and now actor Nawazuddin Siddiqui has been approached by director Rajiv Dhingra and host Kapil Sharma, of television’s hit show - Comedy Nights with Kapil for a comedy film. Sharma and Dhingra are in the process of making their acting and directorial debut respectively with this film.
Reveals Dhingra, “I have been directing TV shows for a long time and it’s time to move on. That is when I thought of making a film.” He has previously directed shows like The Great Indian Laughter Challenge Season 4, and a few seasons of Comedy Circus among others.
Though the director refuses to divulge the title of the film, about the content, he says, “The film depicts the story of three friends. It is a comic film with a social message and will be informative as well.” While Nawazuddin plays one of the three leads, Sharma and his co-actor from Comedy Nights..., Sunil Grover have been signed to play the other roles. “Actually Kapil wanted Irrfan to play Nawazuddin’s role, but I was hell-bent on having Nawaz, as the character is very similar to how he is in real life. We have already approached the actor, and he has liked the project. We are just waiting to complete the formalities,” says Dhingra. Regarding the other cast, he further adds, “Kapil and I have been friends since the ninth grade. We have worked together on many projects. He genuinely loved the concept of the film and came on board. And as for Sunil, he has been basking in the success as Gutthi on Comedy Nights... He has tremendous potential, and I want to explore it through this film.”
While many producers have shown an interest in producing the project, the team has yet to finalise one. The project is set to go on floor by April end next year.
