The seventh season of Kaun Banega Crorepati lives up to all the expectations and more.
The signature look of the iconic quiz show sets has undergone a significant change. Gone is its controlled sophistication, enter LED light effects lending warm tones to its new swankier avatar — new chairs et al. The colour theme of purple and pink remains the same though. The theme music takes on an eclectic and contemporary tone with the addition of of traditional instruments like flute. Moving on to the format of the show, the preliminary round, ‘Fastest-fingers-first’ now has three questions. The one who answers all three in the least amount of time ends up being on the much coveted hot seat. From then on, he or she not only ends up interacting with Big B, but also gets a chance to win upto Rs. 7 crores by answering all 15 questions. In this journey, one more lifeline has been added to the the regular four — 50:50, Audience poll, Phone-a-friend and Flip-a-question; the ‘Expert Opinion’ lifeline has been replaced by Power Paplu (to bring back a lifeline used before).
There is something in store for the co-participants as well, as these hot seat contenders can play simultaneously with the participant and the one who answers maximum questions can win one lakh rupees. KBC 7 continues with its tradition to give the television audience a chance to win some cash prizes through the Ghar Baithe Jeeto Jackpot contest, with an interesting twist where the jackpot prize goes up the next day, if a contestant fails to answer the question correctly. But even with all the changes and attraction of additional money among other things, what hasn’t changed is Bachchan as the charming host. He is clearly having a good time, quizzing and interacting with the contestants. It’s heartwarming to see his camaraderie with the participants on the hot seat, who come from different parts of the country. In one of the episodes, he kept teasing a contestant for pestering him to make the questions easier as he, like Bachchan, hailed from Allahabad. As a host, he knows just how to infuse the show with the right amount of excitement and authority (especially with those who tend to cross the line at times).
Even though the show is in its seventh season, you just
