The Kerala State Road Transport Corporation has earned a Rs 2.59 crore revenue for operating about 8,368 bus services from Pampa to the Lord Ayyappa temple since the beginning of the pilgrimage season last month.
About 12.54 lakh pilgrims had made use of the 'Pampa-Nilakkal chain service', a press release said.
Chengannur depot had conducted the maximum 2,029 services, followed by Kottayam with 1,193 services.
Taking into consideration the expected rush of pilgrims during 'Mandalapooja', it had been decided to increase the chain service from 83 to 100. Additional buses have been pressed into service for long distances.
The flow of pilgrims through Kumili in Idukki bordering Tamil Nadu had dipped while through Thenkasi it has gained momentum.
KSRTC has started a reservation facility at Pampa Bus station and pilgrims can avail the service two hours before the commencement of journey. Online booking is also available.
