The Lenovo ThinkCentre Edge 92z is engineered for those who want the best technology for enterprise use, advertising, designing or even studies. And it looks good too

One might wonder that in today?s mobile life, why one needs a desktop at all. Ask any technology enthusiast and what might be his next computer, and the answer in most cases would be a laptop; in fact, ultrabooks and tablets are the in-thing. After all, one can ?compute? wherever one wants, whenever one wants and without any cables. Correct? Now, enter any

office set-up, and what do you see around?it is desktops. The case for a desktop is that because laptops have a limitation with size and heat, it means desktop computers are more powerful than laptops. Moreover, one has to admit that they can be slightly more convenient than laptops. Case in point is me, this review I am writing on a desktop?the Lenovo ThinkCentre Edge 92z.

The first thing you notice about the new Lenovo is its looks and its space saving design?it saves up to 70% space on the desk as compared to a conventional desktop and is quite easy to set up, mount and move around. Which means the machine is convenient to install in small, tight office spaces. It is powered with Intel Core i7 Quad Core (65W) CPUs and 2 GB optional discrete graphics, and is optimised for Microsoft Lync qualified VoIP features as well as USB 3.0, Wi-Fi Direct, and Bluetooth to promote collaboration. The screen is a large 21.5-inch wide LED 1080p HD display and it understands your touch.

Setting up the ThinkCentre Edge 92z is quite simple. Pull back the stand, plug in the power cord, follow onscreen prompts, and there you go. The black overall finishing goes well both in office and home set-ups. The screen is quite slim (545 x 414 x 81mm) and, because the stand is somewhat elevated, you can keep the keyboard directly under the screen?this results in more desk space. The keyboard itself is impressive and comes with large keys that make typing a breeze?in fact, as I am realising now at the end of the third paragraph of this review, it makes typing a joy. Additionally, the keypad is also splash-resistant, so you need not worry if your tea spills on to the keyboard.

Then you have the touchscreen, which is quite responsive and, I must admit, can be addictive. In case you don?t want to use the touch, the optical mouse and wireless keyboard have a long enough range so that you can operate the machine while relaxing on your couch.

Somewhat similar to its predecessor, the 91z, the Lenovo ThinkCentre Edge 92z is a sleek and compact all-in-one desktop which is a good option for business and enterprise use, which doesn?t compromise on screen size or performance, which is easy to mount and operate, and which?from R59,600 onwards?can be a sensible home machine too.

Estimated street price: Rs.59,600
