Mahindra Two Wheelers (MTWL), part of the Mahindra & Mahindra group, has decided to double its production capacity to 50,000 units a month from the current level of 25,000 units — as well as launch six to eight new products (in both scooter and motorcycle segments) in the next two years, said Pawan Goenka, executive director (automotive & farm equipment), M&M.
In an interaction with FE, Goenka said: “We want to be in the mass segment and will launch motorcycles in the 100 CC & 125 CC segments. We will also will have a high-end sports bike soon,” he added.
In November, the company reported a 127% growth to 24,245 units against 10,676 units a year ago.
“We were overwhelmed with the response ‘Centuro’ has been receiving since its launch in July... Given the demand and to meet exports as well for other products, the company will ramp up the overall production capacity in the next few months — from 600 a day to 1,200 units and then to 1,800 units a day by the end of this fiscal.”
The company will also launch at least 8 new products in the next two years, including scooters, to give us enough balance in our portfolio, he said.
