UB Group chairman Vijay Mallya, whose carrier Kingfisher Airlines is under huge financial duress, has decided to continue with his expensive practice of gifting away kilos of gold to temples. On his 58th birthday on Tuesday, Mallya gifted 3 kg of gold bricks, costing around R1 crore, to the Lord Venkateswara temple in Tirupati. He has requested the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanam authorities to use it for gilding the doors at the sanctum sanctorum of the temple, according to news agency reports. Mallya was accompanied by his family.
