Police have arrested an IT professional for allegedly confining, torturing and sodomising his newly wed wife during their honeymoon in Thailand.
The accused, who was absconding after his wife lodged a complaint against him, was arrested on Saturday from a relative’s house. Police said they located him through technical surveillance. After his arrest, he was produced before a magistrate, who sent him to judicial custody, police said.
His 26-year-old wife filed a police complaint against him the day she arrived in Delhi from Thailand. In her complaint, the victim alleged that the man sexually assaulted her, forced her to consume alcohol and slapped her when she refused.
The woman alleged her husband took away her passport and threatened to force her into prostitution if she complained against him. “The woman alleged she could not contact her parents from Thailand as her husband had taken away her phone. When he let her make calls from her phone, he would allegedly listen to the entire conversation,” a police officer said.
She alleged that he filmed her while raping her. The camera and the clip has been seized by police and will be presented as evidence in court. The footage has been sent to a forensic lab for analysis.
“We have strong evidence against the accused and, therefore, did not ask for police custody,” a senior police officer said.
