A year after a 27-year-old Spanish national was raped and robbed by a man who had broken into her Bandra residence, a sessions court Friday convicted and sentenced him to life imprisonment.
Anwar Mohammed Ansari, 28, was found guilty under several sections of the IPC.
Ansari, who has around 34 cases of robbery against him, had entered the third floor flat rented by the victim on November 4-5. On seeing the girl alone in the house, he had sexually attacked her for over 40 minutes, said Abhay Shastri, investigating officer.
Through a video-conference arranged from Indian Consulate in Berlin, the victim had identified Ansari. She gave a very strong evidence, said special public prosecutor Ujjwal Nikam.
DNA samples collected from the spot and on the victim matched that of Ansaris. According to the prosecution,
Ansari held the victim hostage at knife point, raped her and indulged in unnatural offences. The victim managed to run to the bathroom and lock herself inside. She then raised alarm and sought help from neighbours. Stating that Ansari had violated a foreign national and brought a bad name to the country, the sessions judge gave him the maximum punishment.
