After being forced to shut down its Manesar facility owing to the 10-day long seige by the striking workers Maruti Suzuki said on Monday that it had resumed partial production at the plant. The company resumed operations after taking on board a clutch of its trained workers who refused to join the labour protests. ?To start with, the weld shop has been made operational,? Maruti said in a statement.
The Gurgaon plant, which was also shut down because of non-availability of engines because of a simultaneous strike at Suzuki Powertrain India, also begun ?normal? production. The striking workers and the management are likely to hold talks late on Monday which would be brokered by the Haryana government. A source in Maruti ruled out any immediate solution to the vexing issue.
?With workers vacating the factory premises on Friday night, the Haryana government has called for talks on Monday between the management and the striking workers,? a company statement said. The spokesperson of the company said that since the workers vacated the Manesar facility on Friday, Maruti has undertaken a thorough check of equipment and machinery.
?In the press shop, some parts had been removed from the dies. In the weld shop, the wiring cords of robots had been pulled apart. About 10 robots had been rendered inoperational. Operational settings of some machines had been tampered with,? according to the company. These have been repaired by the company to make the plant operational.
A striking worker, however, denied the charges. ?We have not damaged company property in any way. These are baseless allegations,? he said.
