Out for a leisurely drive on the NH8 and heading towards the Gurgaon toll plaza, we caught Maruti Suzuki’s new small car 'YL7', tipped to be the new Alto, and set to replace both the Zen Estilo and the A-Star.
Codenamed YL7, the name for India is still under wraps though globally it will be the new Alto. The small car is likely to offer for the first time Suzuki’s all-new self-developed 800cc diesel engine. That apart, it will be fitted with a one-litre K-Series petrol engine that currently powers the Alto K10, WagonR and A-Star.
Produced out of Maruti’s Manesar plant for India and global markets like Europe, Southeast Asia,
Africa and South America, the small car
will be a more premium version of Maruti’s previous mini car models, offering more space inside and pull-type door handles as a segment-first. Expect a launch around the Auto Expo in February next year.
