Maruti Suzuki has unveiled its latest offering in the form of the WagonR ‘Stingray’.

Maruti Suzuki has unveiled its latest offering in the form of the WagonR ‘Stingray’. While the boxy car has been a perennial favourite, we list here 10 points of appeal that the ‘Stingray’ flaunts.

More sporty, more stylish, the boxy Maruti Suzuki WagonR revamp gives it more than just a new name, the Stingray. The launch of this swanky hatchback is purely a strategic move by the company to combat the slowdown in the auto market. Stingray showed up with starting price of Rs.4.10 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi). Maruti feels the auto market is maturing fast and the Stingray was the result.

The exteriors of the car can’t be overlooked and the next generation design will soon make this hatch a popular seller. The front fascia is one part where Maruti Suzuki designers have given their best. The boxy looks have been transformed into a very appealing look, specific target being the bonnet, which now looks more aggressive and sportier. Headlights merging into the redesigned radiator grille also catches attention, while the wider bumper makes this car look futuristic and sporty. (Image Credit : CarDekho)

The side profile of the Maruti Suzuki WagonR Stingray also received attention, but the changes were few, largely cosmetic. The wheel arches now hold a classic touch with alloy wheels, obviously an appreciable attempt to add sporty character to this hatchback. The character lines on the sides work well to give more of muscular elements to the car. Unlike the existing model of WagonR, this newbie is bestowed with body color door handles and external rear view mirrors. Dimensionally, the Stingray is 3636mm long, 1475mm wide and has a height about 1670mm. (Image Credit : CarDekho)

Beneath the bonnet, Maruti Suzuki WagonR Stingray houses the same 1.0 litre K-series petrol mill, which is capable of churning maximum power output of 67.1bhp @ 6200rpm, while peak torque stands at 90Nm @ 3500rpm. Mechanically, the car remains the same, but assures impressive power, better fuel efficiency and all-round better experience. The K-series engine is mated to a five speed manual transmission, making this car perfect for both city and highway use. (Image Credit : CarDekho)

Moving onto Maruti Suzuki WagonR Stingray’s bonnet, the eye catching radiator grille is flashy and surprisingly, the LEDs make it the first ever hatch to receive this new feature. The vertical headlamps nicely meet the radiator grille, which also holds the Maruti logo right at the center of it. (Image Credit : CarDekho)

The Maruti Suzuki WagonR Stingray interiors have been given a refreshing look so as to appeal to GenNext. The front dash looks fresh with the central console holding A/C unit, advanced music player with USB and Aux-In port, all well-placed to bring out the sporty appeal. The sporty appeal on the inside also includes a three-spoke steering wheel with mounted controls, which makes it more accessible to operate the music system. (Image Credit : CarDekho)

Looking at the rear end of the car, Stingray features a profile almost similar to the existing WagonR even though some extra bulges can be seen. Disappointingly, the tail lamp cluster remains same, except that it is now surrounded with some chrome finish. In fact a lot of chrome is seen at the rear; with even the bootlid featuring a chrome strip. The back windshield is large enough and the rear bumper with its refreshed design, further complements the overall profile of the car. The ‘Stingray’ badge also compliments the overall rear profile. A pair of dynamically designed fog lamps further accentuate the front end design, bringing forward both functionality and practicality for this new hot hatch. (Image Credit : CarDekho)

The tail lamps clusters do not feature any drastic changes besides getting a little slimmer than before plus the chrome touches which have been provided to make it look sportier. The vertical shape of the tail lamps is designed in a way that it complements the boxy structure of the car. (Image Credit : CarDekho)

The comfort features of the car have also received a few tweaks, that have made it more spacious, with better legroom and headroom. The ride for the passengers as well, has been made more luxurious with a good amount of rear legroom. Seats are cushioned and covered with 3D effect fabric upholstery. The amount of headroom in the second row is pretty decent for five passengers with appropriate amount of shoulder room. (Image Credit : CarDekho)

Maruti Suzuki WagonR Stingray also sports stylish alloy wheels. The high end versions (Vxi and Vxi optional) features a set of 14inch alloy wheels. While the base variant has been fitted with steel wheels measuring 155/65 R14. Alloy wheels are the newest addition by Maruti in its hatchback models. (Image Credit : CarDekho)
