Mauritius Tourism Promotion Authority is anticipating about 60,000 tourists from India to visit Mauritius in 2014 as against 58,000 tourists who visited last year.
Vijaye Haulder- Deputy Director, Mauritius Tourism Promotion Authority addressing a Roadshow organized by MTPA and Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) in Chandigarh observed that “out of total tourists' traffic from India, 40 per cent constitutes visitors from northern parts of India. This is the reason why Mauritius Tourism Promotion Authority (MTPA) is really keen to tap the tourism potential of Northern states like Punjab, Haryana, Delhi & Rajasthan”.
Mauritius Tourism Promotion Authority is conducting a 4 city Roadshow from 25th -30th August, 2014 in Chandigarh, Chennai, Hyderabad and Kolkata. With approximately 30 stakeholders, such as Air Mauritius, Hotels, DMC’s and activity companies participating in this event MTPA aims to create a platform where the Indian travel trade partners can interact with the stakeholders and learn more and understand the destination better.
Talking about Mauritius's participation in CII Tourism Fest 2014, Haulder said, “We are really excited to be a part of North India’s biggest Tourism extravaganza-CII Tourism Fest from 5th to 7th December 2014. With participation from countries like China, Abu Dhabi, Kenya, Thailand, Taiwan, it will be an ideal platform for tourism and hospitality fraternity to explore business opportunities. The unique event would immensely benefit the holidaying population of the region to reach out to the new destinations of the world.”
Giving information about MICE tourism Vivek Anand, Country Manager MTPA India, “Mauritius has an advantage over other MICE destinations in the Indian Ocean in that it houses the region’s largest and most modern convention centre: the Swami Vivekananda Conference Centre in Pailles. Also, the MTPA offers various incentives like cash return upto 2 lakhs, extra luggage upto 7kgs (Air Mauritius), fast-track immigration, special welcome with Sega dance, Helicopter sightseeing visits, ‘heli-lunches’ or ‘heli-golf’ excursions at preferential group rates for MICE travellers.” He added that “When it comes to Destination weddings, Mauritius offers heaven-like backdrops with its crystal clear water, sands, reefs and unmatched French architecture”.
In the meanwhile, the UN World Tourism Organization Report says that prospects for international travel were bright as from a mere 25 million tourists in 1950, the number has grown to 1087 million at the end of 2013 and is expected to go up to 1.8 billion international tourists by 2030.
